STAC BOYS BASKETBALL: OWEGO PULLS AWAY IN SECOND HALF OF 73-51 WIN OVER CHENANGO FORKS (December 12, 2025)

OWEGO — Owego used a strong third quarter to blow open a close game on its way to a 73-51 win over Chenango Forks here Friday night in STAC Central Division boys basketball action.

"We shoot the ball well, but if we are going to get where we want to, we are going to have to defend and rebound," said Owego coach Chris Evans. "It improved in the second half, but we have to be more consistent. 

"King Brainard hit some really tough threes, Duke Snyder got to the rim at will, while Calvin Smith and Carter Rieg played their typical well-rounded floor games," noted Evans. 

"Atlas Boland and Nolan Card are just coming off a successful football campaign, so we hope to catch them up to speed - they both are showing glimpses of excellence," he added.

Kingston Brainard scored 10 points, including a 3-pointers, and Duke Snyder added eight points to help the River Hawks to a 25-22 lead after the first eight minutes.

Brainard, Snyder and Carter Rieg scored four points apiece in the second quarter, and Calvin Smith canned a 3-pointer as Owego used a 19-14 spurt to extend its lead to 43-36 at the halftime break.

Brainard drained a trio of 3-pointers in the third quarter, while Snyder scored four points, and Atlas Boland added a trey in a 20-11 run that pushed the River Hawks' lead to 64-47 heading into the final eight minutes.

Brainard pumped in 23 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead the River Hawks, while Snyder scored 18 points, and Smith had 10 points.

Rieg added eight points in the win, while Boland had seven points, and Nolan Card chipped in with four points.

Brady Vaseleck led Chenango Forks with 18 points, and Lincoln Raab added 11 points.

Owego, now 3-1, returns to action Tuesday when it hosts Windsor.
