IAC JV BOYS BASKETBALL: NEWARK VALLEY ROLLS TO 49-26 WIN OVER GROTON (December 12, 2025)

GROTON — Newark Valley built an 11-point halftime lead, then blew the game wide open in the fourth quarter of a 49-26 win over Groton in IAC junior varsity boys basketball action.

Lucas Madison and Dekan Walker each knocked down 3-pointers in the first quarter to help the Cardinals to an 11-7 lead.

Jack LaPorted scored five points in the second quarter, and Walker canned another 3-pointer to fuel a 13-6 run to extend the NV lead to 24-13 at the half.

The lead could have been bigger, but the Cardinals made just 7 of 18 free throws in the first half.

Groton cut a point off the NV lead with an 11-10 advantage in the third quarter, but the Cardinals iced the game with a 15-2 blitz in the fourth quarter that featured six different players putting their name in the scoring column.

Walker led a balanced attack for the Cardinals with 11 points, while Madison and olan Daugherty scored nine points apiece, LaPorte added seven points, and Kam Tesseyman chipped in with six points.

Newark Valley returns to action at Edison.
