STAC BOYS BASKETBALL: SETON CATHOLIC TOO MUCH FOR OWEGO (December 9, 2025)

Tioga County Sports Report
OWEGO — Seton Catholic jumped out to a big lead early, and cruised to a 77-41 win over Owego here Tuesday night in STAC Central Division boys basketball action.

"Seton is bigger, stronger, and faster. It’s like playing a prep school," said Owego coach Chris Evans. "And, we are in a relatively small public school league.

"They are well-coached, move the ball extremely well, and can really shoot it.

"Cal Smith played well for us, but overall we just didn’t make enough shots, especially early," added Evans.

The Saints raced out to a 21-5 lead after the first eight minutes, then outscored the River Hawks, 14-8, in the second quarter to take a 35-13 lead into the halftime break.

Owego started to find the range much more consistently in the second half, but was still outscored, 42-28.

Calvin Smith led Owego with 16 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, while Noah Christ added five points, and Carter Rieg and Kingston Brainard chipped in with four points apiece.

Brian Dempsey led four Saints in double-figures with 19 points, including four of the team's nine 3-pointers.

Allan Eagles scored 18 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, for Seton, while Liam Kozel added 12 points, and Angelo O'COnnor chipped in with 11, including a trio of 3-pointers.

Owego, now 1-1, hosts Chenango Forks Friday night.
