HS JV BOYS BASKETBALL: NEWARK VALLEY WINS SIBLEY TOURNAMENT TITLE (December 7, 2025)

OWEGO — Newark Valley gave up a few more points from beyond the arc, but reversed the trend at the free throw line to defeat Candor and Owego, and win the boys JV title at the Charlie Sibley Memorial Tournament here Friday and Saturday.
NV 46, Candor 42
The Cardinals made 17 trips to the charity stripe, going 18-for-35 while the Coyotes were 9-for-17.
Nolan Dougherty was 9-for-14 for NV to lead the charge. He led the team with 16 points.
Newark Valley would grab a 7-5 edge in the first quarter and led, 21-19, at the half. Owego would knot things up at 34 in the third, but were held to single digits in the final frame.
Elliot Johanns and Nathan Morse drained one 3-pointer each for the Coyotes, but the Cardinals got four points from Dougherty and three from Madison, as well as a trey by Dekan Walker.
Aiding Dougherty's effort were Lucas Madison with 11 points, Kameron Tessyman with eight, Dekan Walker with six, Chase Pursell with four and Jack LaPorte with one.
Johanns would sink three treys and go 4-for-4 at the line to lead Candor with 17 points. Morse scored nine points, Ethan Eiklor and Hunter Cody added five points apiece, Owen Beach had three, and Lucas Edwards, Avree Klick and Hoyt Brooks tacked on one point each.
NV 38, Owego 36
Madison stepped to the line several times, connecting on nine of 10 foul shots in a 19-point effort. With the game tied with 3.8 seconds remaining, he was fouled and sank both attempts to clinch the win.
He had eight points as NV outscored the River Hawks, 17-9, in the second quarter to grab a 24-20 advantage.
Aiden Alger added five points in Q2 for NV and ended the game with eight. Dougherty contributed five, LaPorte had four and Pursell added two.
Jordan Snyder started out with a pair of three-balls and a bucket as the River Hawks grabbed an 11-7 lead in the first period. He added another trey in the second and finished the game with a team-high 11 points.
LucEvan Canfield put up three, and Lincoln Miller, Ryan Diedrich and Colton Hill connected for two apiece.
