IAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: MAKIE SCORES CAREER HIGH AS CANDOR WINS SIBLEY CONSOLATION GAME (December 6, 2026)

OWEGO — Emmi Makie scored a career-high 34 points as Candor rolled past Tioga, 61-32, in the consolation game of the Sibley Tournament here Saturday.
The Coyotes rushed out of the gate with a 16-0 run en route to a 24-3 first frame advantage. Makie hit a trio of 3-pointers, a layup, and went 4-for-4 from the free throw line to tally 15 points. Megan Williamson scored seven on a three and two field goals. The remaining points were from a jumper by Malley Heidl.
Candor would carry a 38-14 lead into the half as Makie hit two more threes and either side of another layup. Montana Vorhis, Williamson, and Shawna Conklin each scored baskets.
The teams duplicated their scoring in the third with a 14-11 stanza that saw Makie score nine more including her sixth and final trey of the game, which would also be the 100th of her career. Vorhis added a three of her own and Ally Mesick hit a jumper to round out Candor scoring.
The Coyotes took the final quarter as well, 9-7. Williamson had four, Makie two, and Heidl capped Coyote scoring with a 3-pointer midway through the quarter.
”It was a nice rebound from Thursday’s start,”Candor coach Carl Kanoff said. “I think the last six quarters are more indicative of how we are capable of playing. Everyone on the roster contributed and the early lead allowed us to get the younger players some valuable playing time.”
Makie recorded a double-double adding 10 rebounds to 34 points. Williamson tacked on 13 points, and had five rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Malley Heidl had five points, seven rebounds, and two steals. Montana Vorhis scored five points with five rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Shawna Conklin had two points, nine rebounds, and a block. Ally Mesick added two points, with two rebounds and an assist.
Makie was named to the All-Tournament team as she compiled 58 points and two double-doubles.
Irie Lynch, also named to the All-Tournament team, led Tioga with 13 points, including three 3-pointers.
