HS GIRLS BASKETBALL: OWEGO CAPTURES FIRST SIBLEY TOURNAMENT TITLE (December 6, 2025)

Tioga County Sports Report
OWEGO — Eva Crawford scored five points and Jenna McEvoy sank four of six free throw attempts in the fourth quarter as Owego held off Moravia, 37-34, to capture the Charlie Sibley Memorial Tournament title here Saturday.

“It was our first Charlie Sibley championship, which is nice in the fifth season and against really strong competition on both sides of the bracket, in a battle today for sure,” coach Luke McEvoy said.

The River Hawks led, 25-23, heading into the period, but Moravia’s Caraline Wasileski got hot and scored all eight of her points.

A pair of McEvoy free throws pushed the lead to 34-28 with less than four minutes remaining. Wasileski missed her last two shots and the Blue Devils also missed two long attempts in the final seconds.

Jenna McEvoy pumped out eight points in the first period to lead Owego to a 14-12 lead, but Moravia rallied for a 19-18 advantage at the half.

The River Hawks came back in the third quarter to go up by two with one quarter to play.

Jenna McEvoy finished with 14 points, Crawford scored nine and Marielle Searles added seven. Jana Nikulich chipped in with four and Katelyn Dodges tacked on three more.

The Blue Devils were led by Kendell Hess with 14 points.

Coach McEvoy credited the entire team for a successful tournament run.

“I'd say everybody stepped up in some way,” he said. “They had to in both games, but particularly today against Moravia. We were limited due to fouls, a couple injuries, things like that that happened, so girls really stepped up and played different minutes for us. I think everybody that stepped on the court and the girls that didn't, that were on the bench, gave everything that they needed to to get us a win today.”

Jenna McEvoy was selected the tournament MVP and Crawford named to the All-Tournament team. Also chosen for the All-Tournament team were Hess, Candor's Emmi Makie and Tioga's Irie Lynch.
