HS GIRLS WRESTLING: NV’S KING WINS ON HOME MATS; OWEGO’S DALY, SVEC’S VANETTEN EARN RUNNER-UP SPOTS (December 6, 2025)

NEWARK VALLEY — Newark Valley’s Isabella King pinned all four of her opponents to capture the 152-pound title at the Newark Valley Girls Wrestling Tournament here Friday evening.

The fledgling NV squad would finish 10th in the 18-team event with 66 points. Shenendehowa won the team title with 308.5 points while Oneonta was the runner-up with 167.5.

Owego, now in its second year with a girls program, placed eighth with 77 points and Spencer-Van Etten/Candor was 14th with 55 despite bringing just three wrestlers to the tournament.

INDIVIDUAL RESULTS
Newark Valley
King decked two foes in the first minute and two more in the second, spending a grand total of five minutes and 22 seconds on the mat.

Hadley Merrill placed fifth and Tressa Middendorf was seventh at 94, going 3-2 and 2-3, respectively. Billeigh Dawson went 4-2 to finish seventh at 132. Also going 3-2 were Abigail Escalante (9th at 126) and Emily LaPorte (9th at 138).

Malerie Gregrow (132) picked up a pair of victories for NV, and Kailyn Harvey (126) and Ashleen Callahan (235) tacked on one win apiece.

Owego
Michaela Daly brought home a runner-up honor at 120 after posting a 3-1 record. Her lone setback came against Sidney standout Isabella Phelps, who made the podium at the inaugural NYSPHSAA Girls Wrestling Championships last season.

Carissa Chandler was fourth at 132, recording a 3-3- record; Tatum Kowalski was fifth at 138 with a 4-1 record; Ashleigh Crawford-Bauer was seventh at 114 with a 4-2 mark; Mikenna Wilbur was seventh at 138 with a 3-2 record; Lucy Purtell took eighth at 107, going 2-3; Hannah Hildebrandt went 2-3 at 126 to take eighth; Lilli Frechette was eighth at 165 at 1-4.

SVEC
Katelynn VanEtten led a trio of Eagles. Placing second at 235 with a 4-1 record for the day. Taylor Zufall claimed fifth place at 162 with a 3-2 mark and even though she didn’t finish among the top eight, Elizabeth Kunte was 2-3.
