HS JV BOYS BASKETBALL: NEWARK VALLEY PULLS AWAY FROM GREENE IN SEASON OPENER (December 4, 2025)

NEWARK VALLEY — Newark Valley built a 13-point bulge through three quarters, then turned back Greene’s comeback attempt to post a 42-35 non-league victory in JV boys basketball action here Wednesday evening.

Lucas Madison drained a trio of 3-pointers as the Cardinals doubled up the visitors in the third period, 16-8, to build a 31-18 cushion.

The Trojans’ Evans countered with a trio of treys in the final frame, but it wouldn’t be enough. He finished with a game-high 16 points.

NV grabbed a slim 5-3 lead in the first quarter and extended it to 15-10 at halftime.

Madison led the Cardinals with 15 points and Dekan Walker contributed 11 more. Nolan Dougherty and Kameron Tesseyman chipped in with seven and six points, respectively, Chase Pursell added two and Kenric Tarvin tacked on one point.

Newark Valley heads to Owego Friday to face Candor in the Charlie Sibley Memorial Tournament semifinals at 7:45 p.m.
