Tioga County Sports ReportTIOGA COUNTY — Fresh off its first-ever Section IV title, Owego "hosts" Section III New Hartford in the New York State Class B quarterfinals at Vestal High School, while Candor is in action in the Class D volleyball state semifinals in Glens Falls in hopes of defending its state title.

Class B Quarterfinals
Owego (8-3) vs, New Hartford (11-0), 3 p.m. @ Vestal H.S.: The River Hawks rolled to a 27-7 win over Waverly in the Section IV, Class B title game, while the Spartans topped Syracuse Institute of Technology 37-14 in the Section III championship.
New Hartford enters the game averaging nearly 44 points per game, while Owego allows 8.9 points per game. On the flip side, Owego averages 17.5 points per game, while New Hartford allows 17.8 points.
Dylan Brace has been the mainstay in the Owego ground game this season, but he has plenty of help recently.
New Hartford is averaging 396.2 yards per game in total offense — 225.3 through the air, and 170.9 on the ground.
Senior QB Johnny Vitullo is completing 68.7 percent (134 of 195) of his passes for 2,339 yards and 31 TDs, against just five interceptions.
Colgate-bound Peyton Way is his top target with 66 receptions for 1,251 yards and 23 TDs. Senior Liam Noonan has 21 grabs for 499 yards and three TDs.
Junior Niko Martinez leads the New Hartford ground game with 1,286 yards and 21 TDs on 158 carries, and Way has 300 yards and three TDs on 24 carries.
VOLLEYBALL
New York State PlayoffsClass D SemifinalsPool play, 8 a.m. @ Harding Mazzotti Arena, Glens Falls: Candor (16-1) will compete against Section 2 champion Mekeel Christian Academy (17-2), Section III champ Weedsport (18-2) and Section V champ York (22-1) in pool play Saturday morning.
The top two will advance to Sunday morning's state championship match.
