TIOGA COUNTY SPORTS REPORT: NEWARK VALLEY'S MERRILL, OWEGO'S BRACE NAMED GUTHRIE COMMUNITY CREDIT UNION 'ATHLETES OF THE WEEK' (November 17, 2025)

TIOGA COUNTY — Newark Valley 8th-grader Hadley Merrill made her mark in her first trip to the N.Y. State Cross-Country Championships, while junior Dylan Brace led Owego to its first-ever Section IV football title. They are the Tioga County Sports Report / Guthrie Community Credit Union "Athletes of the Week," for the week ending Nov. 15.

NEWARK VALLEY'S MERRILL NAMED GUTHRIE COMMUNITY CREDIT UNION GIRLS "ATHLETE OF THE WEEK"
Merrill missed out on a medal in the Class C Championship race by one spot.

She clocked in with a time of 20:13, which was good for 21st place in a field of 115.

Honorable Mentions: Candor's Emmi Makie (volleyball), Owego's Maggie Hamed (volleyball), Candor's Malley Heidl (volleyball), Owego's Jaelyn Chrysler, Abigail McHugh, Sarah Heath, and Stella Palladino. (cross country).

OWEGO'S BRACE NAMED GUTHRIE COMMUNITY CREDIT UNION BOYS "ATHLETE OF THE WEEK"
Brace led Owego on the ground, and played a key role with his place-kicking in a 27-7 win over Waverly in the Section IV, Class B championship game.

Brace rushed for 148 yards and two TDs on 19 carries. He also made 3 of 4 extra-point kicks, and had one touchback on kickoffs.
