Tioga County Sports ReportTIOGA COUNTY — The state volleyball playoffs tip off at Candor and Owego this morning, while 10 Tioga County runners will be in action at the New York State Cross-Country Championships at Queensbury High School.
VOLLEYBALL
New York State PlayoffsClass D QuarterfinalsTupper Lake at Candor, 11 a.m.: The defending state champion Coyotes won the Section IV title with a sweep of S-VE, while the Lumberjacks received an at-large bid after dropping a four-setter to Chateaugay in Section X title match.
Class A QuarterfinalsIslip at Owego, 11 a.m.: The River Hawks are coming off a four-set win over Maine-Endwell in the Section IV, Class A title match.
CROSS COUNTRY
New York State Championships at Queensbury H.S.: Owego will have seven runners in action Saturday, with Abigail McHugh, Jaelyn Chrysler, Stella Palladino, and Sarah Heath in the Class B girls race, and two-time Section IV, Class B champ Javan Belokur, Magavin Allen and Levi Saunders in the boys race.
Newark Valley 8th-grader Hadley Merrill win run in the Class D girls race.
Waverly junior Chase Hine and sophomore Hayden Montanye will run in the Class C boys race.
