Sophia Palladino, Hartwick College opened the Empire 8 Championship Tournament with a sweep of Utica University here Saturday.
The second-seeded Hawks won by scores of 25-12, 25-15 and 25-15. They advance to face third-seed Brockport Wednesday.
Swartz had 20.5 service points, 18 kills, three blocks, one setter assist, and eight digs, while Hornick had 2.5 points, 41 setter assists, one kill, three blocks, and eight digs, and Paladino had eight points (one ace), seven kills, eight digs, and one assist.
Hartwick is now 20-10 on the season, and has won nine in a row.
On the season, Hornick, a senior who missed 10 matches this year due to injury, had 700 assists to give her 2,752 for her career. She also had 80.5 points (30 aces), 42 kills, 17 blocks, and 166 digs.
Swartz, a senior, has a career-high 332 kills on the season to give her 836 for her career. She also a career-high 384.5 service points to give her 1,029.5 for her career, 47 blocks, a career-high 29 assists, 26 service aces, and a career-high 271 digs.
Palladino, a junior, has registered career-highs in every category. She has 244 points, including 36 aces, 198 kills, 18 blocks, and 246 digs.
