THE WEEK AHEAD: SECTION IV FOOTBALL TITLE GAME, STATE CROSS-COUNTRY, VOLLEYBALL MATCHES HEADLINE WEEK'S SLATE OF ACTION (November 9, 2025)

TIOGA COUNTY — Owego seeking its first-ever Section IV title Friday night kicks off a weekend of action that also includes the N.Y. State Cross-Country Championships, and state playoff volleyball matches at Candor and Owego Saturday.

Next week, Owego sophomore Ayla Young will compete at the New York Stave Diving Championships.

There are four events on the docket this week, including three on Saturday:

FRIDAY (1)
•  Waverly takes on Owego, which upset Maine-Endwell in the semifinals, in the Section IV, Class B championship football game at Susquehanna Valley H.S. in an 8 p.m. kickoff.

SATURDAY (3)
•  Newark Valley 8th-grader Hadley Merrill will run in the New York State, Class D Cross-Country Girls Championships at Queensbury High School, while Owego will have four girls, and three boys in the Class B races.

•  Candor will host Section X champ Tupper Lake in the in the opening round of the New York State, Class D volleyball championships in an 11 a.m. start.

•  Owego will host Section XI's Islip in the opening round of the New York State, Class A volleyball championships in an 11 a.m. start.
