NACOGDOCHES, Tx. — Newark Valley grad Cha Gardner, a sophomore on the Stephen F. Austin women's basketball team, started and narrowly missed a double-double in a season-opening win over Nelson University Monday.

Gardner scored 10 points on 4 of 8 shooting from the field, and pulled down eight rebounds in 22 minutes in an 85-54 win. She also had one blocked shot and one assist.

Gardner, who played in 31 games and started nine as a freshman, averaged 5.9 points and 4.3 rebounds per game in 17.1 minutes per game of action last season.

SFA returns to action Saturday when it hosts Texas A&M-Texarkana at 2 p.m. The game will be aired on ESPN+.
