TIOGA COUNTY — Newark Valley 8th-grader Hadley Merrill had a strong showing at the IAC Cross-Country Championships, while Owego junior John Farrell helped the River Hawks to a win over Horseheads. They are the Tioga County Sports Report / Guthrie Community Credit Union "Athletes of the Week," for the week ending Nov. 1.

Merrill finished second at the IAC Cross-Country Championships.

She clocked in with a time of 21:22.5.

Honorable Mentions: Newark Valley's Brook Illsley (cross country), S-VE's Madelyn Ellison (cross country), Candor's Zoey Lang (cross country), and Owego's Bella Miller (volleyball).

OWEGO'S FARRELL NAMED GUTHRIE COMMUNITY CREDIT UNION BOYS 'ATHLETE OF THE WEEK'
Farrell scored both of Owego's TDs in a 13-12 win over Horseheads in the regular-season finale.

Farrell led Owego with five catches for 77 yards.

Farrell scored the River Hawks first TD on a 12-yard run. He found paydirt again on a 56-yard reception, doing the majority of the work after the catch.
