TIOGA COUNTY — A young SVEC field hockey team opens the Section IV, Class C playoffs Tuesday, and it will face a state powerhouse in Whitney Point, which has won nine of the last 10 state titles, including the last four.

4-SVEC (7-9) at 1-Whitney Point (15-0-1), 5 p.m.: The Eagles ended the regular season with a 3-1 win over Sidney on Oct. 16, while the Golden Eagles edged Windsor 2-1 on Oct. 18.

Whitney Point has won nine in a row since a 3-3 tie with Cherokee (Marlton, N.J.), while SVEC is riding a two-match win streak.

Whitney Point has outscored its opponents 111-7 this season, including 12 shutouts,  while SVEC was outscored, 33-30, in 2025.

Whitney Point won the only regular-season meeting of the two teams., 8-0.
