SECTION IV FOOTBALL: NEWARK VALLEY ROLLS PAST GREENE/OXFORD, 41-22 (2025-10-10)

OWEGO — Logan Rhodes scored a pair of touchdowns and Nate Hinckley played a role in two more as Newark Valley rolled to a 41-22 victory over Greene/Oxford in Section IV Division VII football action here Friday night.

Hinckley opened things up early, finding Tim Wojtysiak for a 60-yard TD strike at 9:49 of the first quarter. Hinckley then took a keeper in for the PAT and an 8-0 advantage.

Jackson Hoover scored on a 26-yard run at 5:44 and Rhodes tallied from 14 yards out with 3:32 on the first-period clock to give the Cardinals a 20-0 cushion.

Hinckley added a 14-yard TD of his own at 4:06 of the second quarter to give NV a 26-0 halftime lead.

Greene/Oxford got on the scoreboard with 53.9 seconds left in the half and added the two-point PAT to close the gap to 26-8.

Rhodes scored his second TD of the evening on a 19-yard run at 5:42 of the third period and Hinckley ran for the PAT to make it 34-8.

Zion King capped the NV TD scoring with a 13-yard run at just 49 seconds into the final stanza and Cooper Davis split the uprights with the PAT kick to make it 41-8.

Greene/Oxford added a 22-yard TD run and extra point run at 8:42 to make the score 41-16, then put six more points on the board with a pick six with 6:04 to play.

Newark Valley held the visitors to 63 yards passing and 51 more rushing while the Cardinals' offense racked up 363 yards, 306 of which came via the run.

Eleven different players ran the ball for NV with Rhodes picking up 70 yards on seven carries. Jackson Hoover had six rushes for 57 yards and Hinckley added nine for 56 more. Also picking up positive yardage were King (4-32), Payne (6-31), Davis (4-24), Josh Benjamin (2-15), Kenny Slater (3-13), Nolan Dougherty (1-8) and Karmine Cataloni (3-6).

Hinckley went 2-for-6 through the air for 57 yards with Wojtysiak grabbing one ball for 60 yards.

NV (3-3, 1-1) heads to Candor next Friday to face Spencer-Van Etten/Candor (4-2, 1-1) in a divisional contest which will all but eliminate one team from playoff contention.
