TIOGA COUNTY SPORTS REPORT: OWEGO'S YOUNG, CANDOR'S SOPER, SVEC'S AMAN NAMED GUTHRIE COMMUNITY CREDIT UNION 'ATHLETES OF THE WEEK' (2025-10-06)

TIOGA COUNTY — Owego sophomore diver Ayla Young had a record-setting week and Candor senior Nicola Soper led the Coyotes to a pair of wins on the volleyball hardwoods, while SVEC's Logan Aman helped the Eagles take down state-ranked Delhi on the gridiron. They are the TCSR / Guthrie Community Credit Union "Athletes of the Week," for the week ending Oct. 4.

OWEGO'S YOUNG, CANDOR'S SOPER NAMED GUTHRIE COMMUNITY CREDIT UNION GIRLS "ATHLETES OF THE WEEK"
On Tuesday, Young won the 1-meter diving competition with a six-dive score of 282.75 points, breaking the pool record of 278.7 set by Kaelyn Katchuk in 2023. 

On Saturday, Young won the 1-meter diving competition at the Elmira Invitational with an 11-dive score of 548.5, which tops the state standard. The score easily tops here season-best of 463.7 and the qualifying standard is 440 points.

On Tuesday, Soper led Candor with nine service points, including four aces, 14 kills, one block, and five digs in a sweep of Newfield

A day later, Soper led Candor with 19 service points, including five aces, 17 kills, one block, and five digs in a five-set win over Trumansburg.

SVEC'S AMAN NAMED GUTHRIE COMMUNITY CREDIT UNION BOYS "ATHLETE OF THE WEEK"
Aman scored the game-winning TD with 28 seconds remaining to lift SVEC to a 24-22 win over Delhi, which entered the game ranked sixth in the state in Class D.

Aman finished the game with 111 yards and two TDs on 15 carries, and had two receptions for 74 yards and one TD. He also completed his only pass for 22 yards.

Aman had TD runs on 72 and 14 yards, and a scoring reception for 36 yards.
