IAC GIRLS SOCCER: SVEC FALLS TO WATKINS GLEN, 5-2, (5 PHOTOS) (2025-10-01)
Tioga County Sports ReportCANDOR — Watkins Glen scored a pair of goals early in the second half to blow open a close game on its way to a 5-2 win over SVEC here Wednesday afternoon in IAC South Large School Division girls soccer action.
The game was the Eagles "Pink Out" game in support of breast cancer awareness.
"Right now, we’re in the middle of our toughest stretch of the season,"said SVEC coach Michael Leljedal. "We’ve got six games in eight days and all six games are against really tough opponents.
"Fatigue was evident in that first half," he noted. "We came out really flat and low energy. That being said it felt like both of their goals were a little flukey and it could’ve easily been a 0-0 game going into halftime.
"This is the point of the season where the girls are going to have to dig deep if they want to salvage the possibility of sectionals," said Leljedal. "We know it’s in them and they are more than capable.
"I haven’t felt like there’s been a single game we’ve played that we’ve been outclassed," he added. "I have such high belief in this team, they just have to want it."
Sophomore Allie Lyon scored both of SVEC's goals, and Junior Meradyth Stouffer assisted on both.
SVEC, now 3-8, returns to action Friday evening at Notre Dame, then at Union Springs Saturday afternoon.
