STAC GIRLS SOCCER: OWEGO DROPS 2-0 DECISION TO WAVERLY (24 PHOTOS) (2025-10-01)

OWEGO — Waverly scored one goal in each half, and managed to keep Owego off the scoreboard in a 2-0 win here Wednesday night in STAC Central Division girls soccer action.

Gianna Soprano scored, off an assist from Lilliana Boothby-Schoonover, with 10:46 remaining in the first half to give the Wolverines a 1-0 lead it carried into the intermission.

Waverly maintained its one-goal lead until Kaitlyn Sutton made it 2-0 with 16:59 left in the contest.

Waverly had a 22-18 advantage in shots-on-goal, and a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.

Kendra Turshman recorded 16 saves in net for the River Hawks, while Claire Clonch had 13 saves for the Wolverines.

Owego, now 3-8, returns to action Thursday when it hosts Elmira.

"We played two of the best teams we have seen this far on Friday and Saturday," said Owego coach Katelyn Simpson. "Vestal is an AA school and Ithaca is an AAA school. We have multiple girls who have been battling injuries, which has been tough for us these past few games."

Junior Ashlyn Dalton scored the River Hawks' goal in their 5-1 loss to Vestal, which had a 13-3 advantage in shots-on-goal.

Kendra Turshman recorded eight saves for Owego.

On Saturday, Ithaca had an 18-2 advantage in shots-on-goal.

Turshman notched eight saves for the River Hawks.
