STAC VOLLEYBALL: CORNING HANDS OWEGO FIRST LOSS IN FIVE-SET THRILLER (2025-10-01)
Tioga County Sports ReportOWEGO — Owego shook off a slow start to take a 2-1 lead, but Corning battled back to win a five-set thriller here Wednesday night in STAC volleyball action, handing the River Hawks their first loss of the season.
The Hawks won the first set 25-20, but the River Hawks bounced back with wins of 26-24 and 25-21. Corning re-grouped, however, and won the final two sets 25-15 and 15-12.
Maggie Hamed led Owego with 21 kills, 16 digs, and two aces, while Alyssa Harrington registered 12 kills, 15 digs, and two aces, and Bella Miller doled out 43 setter assists.
Peyton Coolbaugh recorded 17 digs for the River Hawks, while Braelea McLaren had eight kills and three aces, Ava McKeon added nine kills, and Evelyn Howe chipped in with four blocks.
Owego, now 8-1, hosts Chenango Forks Friday.
