IAC GIRLS SOCCER: STOUFFER NETS GAME-WINNER IN SVEC'S 3-2 WIN OVER O-M (2025-09-13)

CANDOR — Junior Meradyth Stouffer scored late in the game to lift SVEC to its first win of the season — a 3-2 decision over Odessa-Montour — here Saturday in IAC girls soccer action.

"It feels really good to get the first win of the season under our belt," said SVEC coach Michael Leljedal. "The girls have been working so hard for it and it was a well-earned result. 

"You could really see the fatigue hitting the girls from playing two games in a 15-hour span, he noted. "We had two girls who couldn’t play the second half for various reasons and the energy levels were low, but they gutted out a tough win against a good young Odessa squad. 

"We have a lot of girls who stepped up, but Meradyth Stouffer worked tirelessly to help earn the W," added Leljedal. "She touched every blade of grass on the field and ultimately scored the game-winner."

Sophomore Allie Lyon scored the game's first goal, off an assist from Emma Fey, with 9:27 remaining in the first half, and Melanie Stevens scored about two minutes later off a feed from Lyon to make it 2-0.

O-M's Avery Nolan scored in the final minute of the first half to close the gap to 2-1 at the intermission.

Aspun Skinner tied the game at 2-2 about 15 minutes into the second half, setting the stage for Stouffer's heroics, off an assist from Lyons with 15:26 left in the contest.

O-M had a 14-13 edge in shots-on-goal, and a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.

Our defense was really strong despite the 2 goals let in," said Leljedal.

SVEC returns to action Monday when it hosts Notre Dame.

"We’ve got another three-game week, so practice time will be limited, but we’re going to continue building on our strengths and tweaking the things we need to," said Leljedal.
