SECTION IV FOOTBALL: NEWARK VALLEY DROPS HEARTBREAKER TO SIDNEY (2025-09-12)

NEWARK VALLEY — It was all Newark Valley in the second half last week, however, the roles were reversed here Friday as Sidney dominated the scoreboard during the final two quarters en route to a 22-14 Section IV Football Conference win.

Elijah Wright connected with Grady Louffler on a 64-yard touchdown strike just 20 second into the third period to pull the Sabers within 14-12.

Sidney would knot the score at 9:53 when I high snap on an NV punt attempt sailed into the end zone for a safety.

The game would remain tied until the Sabers found the end zone with 4:50 to go in the fourth quarter. Wright hit Louffler with the 19-yard go-ahead TD pass, then threw for the two-point PAT and a 22-14 lead.

The Cardinals got the ball out to the 42 on the kickoff, then moved it down to the Sidney 3 with 1.9 seconds left. Quarterback Nate Hinckley tried to follow his line to the goal line but was marked just short as the game ended.

The Sabers grabbed the early lead on Louffler’s 2-yard run at 6:34 of the first period, but NV came back to tie the game on Kyle Payne's 2-yard run at 2:11. Both teams missed their extra point attempts. Making it a 6-6- deadlock heading into the second quarter.

The Cardinals grabbed the lead on Nate Hinckley’s 1-yard keeper with 2:14 to go in the second period. His PAT run gave NV a 14-6 advantage at the break.

Wright’s TD pass to Loeffler at 11:40 of the third quarter closed the gap to 14-12.

Wright finished the game with 166 yards on 10-for-15 passing and also carried the rock 12 times for 73 yards. Loeffler contributed 132 yards on four receptions and ran the ball three times for nine yards. Sidney had 122 yards on the ground.

Newark Valley had 274 yards offense, 244 coming via the run.

Hinckley had 12 carries for 73 yards, Cooper Davis added 13 for 54, Zion King pitched in with nine for 46, Logan Rhodes contributed six for 37 and Jackson Hoover recorded nine for 34.

Tristan Veruto caught one pass for 17 yards while Tim Wojtysiak had one for seven and Hoover tacked on one for six.

NV (1-1) heads to Bainbridge-Guilford (1-1), a 16-15 winner over Whitney Point, next Friday.
