IAC GIRLS SOCCER: NEWARK VALLEY FALLS TO TIOGA, 5-3 (18 PHOTOS) (2025-09-09)
Tioga County Sports ReportNEWARK VALLEY — Tioga scored three goals in about 8 minutes midway through the second half to rally for a 5-3 win over Newark Valley here Tuesday afternoon in IAC girls soccer action.
Newark Valley's Annika Smith started the scoring for the Cardinals on a perfectly-placed direct kick over the head of the Tioga keeper with 16:20 remaining in the first half.
Less than two minutes later, Tioga freshman Grace Howey tied the game at 1-1 with 14:26 left in the half.
Neither team dented the other's defenses for more than 25 minutes until NV's Aubrey Kwiatkowski launched another perfectly-placed direct kick over the head of the Tioga keeper to make it 2-1 with 29:05 left in the game.
About five minutes later, Howey again weaved her way through the Cardinal defense to score an unassisted goal to tie it at 2-2.
Three minutes later, Howey, who had a hand in all five Tiger goals, fed Natalie Kemp, who deposited a shot into the back of the net, to make it 3-2 with 21:13 remaining.
Senior Sophia Haney, again off a feed from Howey, scored with 16:09 left in the contest to give the Tigers a 4-2 lead.
The Cardinals closed the gap to 4-3 on a penalty kick by Aubrey Kwiatkowski with 9:08 left in the game, but Howey completed her hat trick about four minutes later to provide the final margin.
Newark Valley, now 0-2, returns to action Friday at Southern Cayuga.
