STAC BOYS SOCCER: OWEGO EDGES WINDSOR, 2-1, FOR FIRST WIN OF SEASON (2025-09-02)
Tioga County Sports ReportOWEGO — Owen Hallenbeck scored midway through the second half to lift Owego to its first win of the season, a 2-1 victory over Windsor here Wednesday night in STAC boys soccer action.
The River Hawks started the season at 0-3, including losses to Chenango Forks and Notre Dame in the "607 Cup" over the weekend.
"We said this was a fresh restart for the group, and we wanted a performance with intensity off the ball, more control and quality in possession, and to be more of a goal threat," said Owego coach Alessio DeMichele.
"I am very proud of the overall performance," he noted. "We had a lot of great moments and the boys brought a bit of what Owego Soccer has been about into the game tonight.
"The only disappointment was that the result didn’t reflect how well they played," added DeMichele. "We still need a jump in quality in the final third to create better goal-scoring chances."
Hallenbeck scored the River Hawks' first goal, off a feed from Fin Duffy to take a 1-0 lead, but Windsor was able to tie the game.
With 22 1/2 minutes remaining, Hallenbeck scored off an assist from Liam Bell to give Owego a 2-1 lead.
Owego, now 1-3, returns to action Sept. 11 at Chenango Valley.
