ENDWELL — Brooke Williams recorded a hat trick as Maine-Endwell defeated Owego, 6-0, in the season opener Thursday night.
The game honored Briana Burghardt, who passed away in July. She played for Whitney Point and coached modified at M-E. Burghardt had family ties to the Owego program where her sister, Kylie Hrehor, is a former coach and her cousin, Ashlee Marsh, is the current head coach.
The Spartans grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first quarter on goals by Makenna Chudacik, who was assisted by Lyla Bready and Ally Fales.
Williams notched her first goal on an assist from Leah Josey to make it 3-0 at the half.
LIz Maraski scored unassisted to put away the first goal of the second half.
Williams tallied the next two, one in the third period and the other in the fourth, with an assist going to Ava Guillon on the first.
Marlee Mancini and Paige Olenski split time in the cage to pick up the shutout.
