The Sports ReportsThere were some special performances during the boys’ lacrosse season and with them come some impressive names on
The Sports Reports' All-Region Boys’ Lacrosse team.
Horseheads senior
Griffin Stevens scored 44 goals and had 11 assists this year, and is The Sports Reports’ All-Region "
Boys Lacrosse Player of the Year."
Griffin,
who is a Division I Mercyhurst commit and an All-State player, he won
112 of 155 face-offs for a 72 percent win-percentage. He also had 88
ground balls. He was a first-team all-STAC player and one of the most
dominant players in the section.
Notre Dame’s
Finn Schweizer
had 73 goals and 34 assists for the combined Notre Dame / Watkins Glen
squad this year, setting Notre Dame records in both categories. He is
the "
Offensive Player of the Year."
Deegan Rankin of Corning is a Division I University of Albany commit and a terror between the boxes.
He
was the best ground-ball individual in the area and he shut down the
opposing team’s best player, while clearing the ball and playing the
wings.
Rankin was a first-team STAC all-star the past two years and he helped the Hawks make the state final four. He is the "
Defensive Player of the Year."
The Hawks'
Taylor Freelove is the "
Newcomer of the Year."
The short-stick defensive middle was the second-best clear option
behind Rankin on the team. He created a lot of fast breaks and was a
lock-down player.
