TIOGA COUNTY SPORTS REPORT: CANDOR'S BANKS IS 'GOLFER OF THE YEAR,' WAVERLY'S ROBINSON AND WALTER GRAB TOP SELECTIONS AS WELL (2025-06-24)

TIOGA COUNTY - Candor's Noah Banks finished off an exceptional career by leading his team to a division and IAC Small School championship, as well as qualifying himself for states to earn Tioga County Sports Report "Golfer of the Year."

Waverly's Breanne Robinson is the "Girls Golfer of the Year," while the Wolverines' Griff Walter lands "Newcomer of the Year" and Candor boys' coach, Kevin Jester is the "Coach of the Year."

Candor's Banks finished his senior season as the top golfer on a Coyotes' team that won both their division's regular season championship, as well as the IAC Small School title at the IAC Championships. 

During the regular season Noah Banks helped carry his team to a 7-2 record, while finishing four different matches as the low medalist. Banks had a nine-hole average of 40.75 going into the postseason.

At the IAC Championships, Banks finished second overall on the Small School leaderboard and was awarded the Outstanding Senior Award.

Banks qualified the Section IV Medalist Tournament, where he tied for sixth place, advancing him to the State Championships. At the New York State Championships, Banks finished with a two-day total of 182.

Waverly's Breanne Robinson turned in a strong regular season, leading Waverly in nearly every match, posting a nine-hole average of 45.5.

Robinson, who qualified for States as a sophomore, but missed by one spot last year, finished sixth at the Section IV Championships with a round of 92.

Robinson shot a 95 on Day two of the New York State Championships to move up 17 spots on the leaderboard. She had a two-day total of 202 for 79th place.

Waverly's Walter, a first-year player, averaged 45.12 over nine holes (90.25 over 18 holes). Walter shot a 90 for a top-25 finish at the STAC Championships.

Kevin Jester coached the Candor boys' golf team to a 7-2 regular season record, along with capturing the division championship. 

Coach Jester followed that up by taking his team to the IAC Championships where the Coyotes won the IAC Small School title.

James Luther, senior, Tioga: 
Luther finished with a 81.6 over 18-holes scoring average. Tioga's Luther finished seventh at the Section IV, Class D Championships with a round of 84.

Tyler Greeno, senior, Candor:
Greeno earned low medalist honors in three separate matches for Candor this season, while also placing fifth at the IAC Championships and qualifying for the Section IV Medalist Tournament. Greeno earned a nine-hole average of 41.38 during the regular season.

Griff Walter, freshman, Waverly: See above

Lauren Gillette, junior, Spencer-Van Etten:
Gillette was the team leader for Spencer-Van Etten girls' golf in 2025, averaging 49.64 per nine holes and pacing the Panthers in the majority of their matches this spring.

Bradyn Woods, junior, Newark Valley:
Woods paced the Cardinals' golf team in 2025, averaging a 47.4 scoring average over nine holes. Woods went on to take 14th for Large School at the IAC Championships.
