CHURCHVILLE: Candor's Noah Banks made the journey to Churchville on Sunday morning for his first trip to states, competing in round one of the NYSPHSAA Boys' Golf Championships at Mill Creek Golf Club.
Banks qualified for the championship event by placing in the top nine at the Section IV Medalist Tournament.
Sunday was day one of the two-day tournament at Miller Creek Golf Club. Banks tee time was set for 10:52 a.m. and the senior went on to card a 91 over 18-holes for the day, with a birdie on the fifth hole, to go with five pars.
"The round was interesting. It was definitely an experience that I am glad to be a part of," said Banks.
"Not too happy about the way I shot, but overall I can't be mad because at the end of the day it's just a game that I love to play."
"For tomorrow, my goal is simply to do better than today and take my last high school golf match and soak it all in," added Noah Banks.
After the first day, Jackson Saroney is atop the leaderboard after shooting a 4-under 67.
Candor's Banks will have some work to do in Day two of the State Championships, which gets underway again at 8 a.m. on Monday.
