IAC BOWLING: NEWARK VALLEY BOYS SWEEP WATKINS GLEN TO TIGHTEN DIVISION RACE (2019-02-01)
Tioga County Sports ReportNEWARK VALLEY - Watkins Glen came into Friday's Large School match holding a 5-point lead over Newark Valley in the boys division. The Senecas left clinging to a 1-point edge after being swept by the Cardinals.
NV pulled out a thriller, winning the total pinfall, 2597-2544. The majority of that spread me in the opening game which the Cardinals won, 918-870. NV eked out an 839-835 win in game two, then squeaked by in game three, 840-839.
Alex Umiker and Kyle Pratt shared NV's high series honor, each rolling a 572. Pumicer had a high game of 243 and Pratt shot a 222. Jason Brown rolled a 216-524, Sam Umiker had a 153 twice and a 451 series. John Fiacco scored a 173-435 and Lucas Frank added a 179-419.
H Rose tallied a 201-581 for Watkins Glen and RJ Bannon added a 195-560.
Watkins Glen is now 45-15 while NV is right behind at 44-16.
In the girls match, the Senecas won by scores of 811-621, 689-584 and 664-601, giving them the total pinfall, 2164-1806.
Nicole VanDyke paced WG with a 215-544.
Lily Austin led NV with a 163-418. Lauren Gwardayak shot a 150-385, Victoria Mellem had a129-356, Rosie Hines rolled a 132-350, Emily Vanpatten scored a 123-296 and Hunter Williams added a 235 series.
Both schools will be competing in the IAC Bowling Championships today at the Valley Bowling Center in Waverly.
