TRACK & FIELD STATE QUALIFIERS: NEWARK VALLEY'S KING PACES CARDINALS ON DAY ONE OF SECTION IV STATE QUALIFYING MEET (2025-06-04)

ENDICOTT - Newark Valley track and field competed today at Union-Endicott High School on Day One of the two-day Section IV State Qualifier, as Zion King paced the Cardinals efforts in the pentathlon event.
King competed in three of the five pentathlon events on day one, earning 1544 points, placing himself third for Class C heading into tomorrow.
King ran 18.64 in the 110 hurdles and leaped 1.73m in the high jump. King also heaved 10.42m in the shot put. Day two's pentathlon events will be the long jump and 1500-meter run.
Newark Valley's Logan Rhodes posted 12-6 to place fourth for Class C and sixth overall in the pole vault, while Elijah Williams ran 1:06.35 in the boys' 400-meter hurdles.
On the girls' side, Emily LaPorte finished 11th overall in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:12.80 and Abigail Escalante placed 17th with 1:14.95. Brook Illsley ran 13:58.51 in the 3000m.
Cardinals' track and field will compete again tomorrow on day two of the Section IV State Qualifier Meet.
