SECTION IV TRACK & FIELD: LOGAN RHODES AND ABIGAIL ESCALANTE LEAD CARDINALS AT CLASS C CHAMPIONSHIPS IN ONEONTA (2025-05-29)

ONEONTA - Newark Valley track and field had a solid showing at the Section IV Class C Championships on Thursday, with the girls' team finishing seventh overall, and the boys' side placing 11th.
BOYS RESULTS
Newark Valley's Logan Rhodes posted 12-6 to take second place in the pole vault event. Zion King earned a top-five finish, taking fifth in the 400-meters with 54.42. King also took ninth in the triple jump event, leaping 38-2.5.
In the 400 hurdles, Elijah Williams ran 1:03.47 to earn a seventh place finish, while Marcos Escalante clocked 5:08.36 in the 1600-meters for 10th.
Jack Blomberg threw 111-9 to take eighth in the discus. Blomberg then heaved 36-7, good enough for 11th in the shot put. Clemente Borelli and King tied for 10th in the long jump, both leaping 17-11.5.
Newark Valley boys' track and field finished 11th overall as a team on Thursday, totaling 10 points. Lansing took home the boys' Class C Championship.
GIRLS RESULTS
Abigail Escalante picked up a second place finish for the Cardinals in the 400-meter hurdles, running 1:13.09, while Emily LaPorte took sixth with 1:16.53. LaPorte also went 31-8.5 to finish eighth in the triple jump.
Brook Illsley ran 12:55.74 in the 3000m to place third and Malerie Gregrow was right behind her with 13:42.99 to finish fourth.
Olivia Webb earned sixth in the 100-meter hurdles, running 19.80. Webb leaped 4-6 in the high jump, good enough to earn eighth place, while Elle Webb took ninth in the 800m, clocking 2:56.61.
Bella King finished top-ten in both the discus and shot put events. King heaved 25-2 for ninth in the shot put. King then threw 77-10 for eighth place in the discus.
Newark Valley girls' track and field placed seventh as a team, earning 26 points. Oneonta won the girls' Class C title.
