TIOGA COUNTY SPORTS REPORT: NEWARK VALLEY'S KING, SVEC'S KLYM ARE GUTHRIE COMMUNITY CREDIT UNION 'ATHLETES OF THE WEEK' (2025-05-27)

Newark Valley's Zion King had a big week on the track competing in both the pentathlon and IAC Championships, while SVEC's Katelyn Klym made the most of her at-bats in the Eagles' season finale. They are the Tioga County Sports Report / Guthrie Community Credit Union "Athletes of the Week," for the week ending May 24.

NEWARK VALLEY'S ZION KING NAMED GUTHRIE COMMUNITY CREDIT UNION BOYS 'ATHLETE OF THE WEEK'
Zion King has had a great season on the track this spring for Newark Valley, especially this past week where King won the boys' outdoor pentathlon in Odessa, before helping lead his team at the IAC Championships on their home track. In the pentathlon event, King totaled 2,420 points to place first. King leaped 1.70m in the high jump and 5.60m in the long jump, while throwing 9.71m in the shot put. King ran 20.37 in the 110 hurdles and clocked 4:55.1 in the 1500-meters. Later in the week, King competed on back-to-back days at the IACs, finishing third in the 400-meters and fourth in the triple jump for the large school division, while also helping out as a member of the Cardinals' third place 4x400 relay team.

SVEC'S KATELYN KLYM NAMED GUTHRIE COMMUNITY CREDIT UNION GIRLS 'ATHLETE OF THE WEEK'
SVEC's Katelyn Klym made her final at-bats as a high school softball player count last week in a matchup with Whitney Point at Greenlight Grand Slam Park in Binghamton. The senior went 2-for-4, driving in four runs, while also scoring twice herself. Klym smacked a triple in the game, racking up four total bases for the day in SVEC softball's season finale.
