Tioga County Sports Report
ITHACA - Candor and Spencer-Van Etten girls' golf programs braved less than ideal conditions at the IAC Championships on Wednesday, playing at Hillendale Golf Course, with the Coyotes finishing fourth overall as a team, and the Panthers taking sixth.
Lansing won the team championship with a 361-team total. Hailey Baughan carded a 74 for the Bobcats to take medalist honors for the round.
Candor earned a 452-team total. Gwen Shaw finished 10th, shooting a 102, while Emma Veasey carded a 111 to place 17th. Both rounds were personal bests for Shaw and Veasey. Candor's Tessa White shot a 119 for 24th on the leaderboard and Kaedyn Everhart was right behind with a 120 on the par-72 course.
"I am proud of this group for the season they have had. Some of them only started playing golf a couple of months ago and everyone on the team improved throughout the season," said Candor coach Jason Banks.
S-VE totaled 497 on Wednesday at the IAC Championship Tournament. Lauren Gillette led the way for the Panthers, carding a 106 to place 11th.
Lily Kunzman played well in the tough conditions, placing 21st and shooting a 115, while S-VE's Hannah Smith and Kelci Wright each shot a 138 for their rounds.
Both girls' golf teams will now head into sectional play next week.
