SECTION IV FLAG FOOTBALL: OWEGO ROUTS NORWICH TO ADVANCE TO SECTION IV CLASS C CHAMPIONSHIP (2025-05-21)

Tioga County Sports Report
OWEGO - River Hawks flag football showed off all of their tools on Wednesday night, using a balanced attack to defeat Norwich, 52-6 in the Section IV Class C Semifinal and punch their ticket to the championship game on Saturday.

"We played phenomenal at all three aspects of the game. Offense, defense and special teams," said Owego coach Rusty Virkler.

"The energy from the team was incredible and multiple people stepped up in a big way today."

"We started off really hot and we fed off that momentum the rest of the game," added coach Virkler.

OFA's Olivia Dodge continued her excellent play on both sides of the ball this postseason. Dodge returned a punt for a touchdown in Wednesday's semifinal. The senior intercepted a pass that she returned for a score as well. On offense, Dodge had a rushing touchdown to go with 75 yards of total offense.

Ashlyn Dalton racked up 95 yards on the ground and tallied three scores on the night. Kylie Grippen threw for two touchdowns and had 103 yards passing. Scarlett Hessberger found the end zone once as well.

The River Hawks totaled 244 yards rushing for a big night on the ground against Norwich.

Dodge led OFA in tackles with eight, while Bella Silvestri pulled six flags and Lexi Herceg grabbed five. Dalton and Leah Clark each had a sack in Wednesday's semifinal. Kylie Craven finished with three tackles and Owego's Mary Cox grabbed an interception.

Owego flag football now advances to Saturday's sectional final to play Susquehanna Valley at Union-Endicott High School.
