Tioga County Sports Report
HORSEHEADS - On a sunny, but cold and breezy day at Soaring Eagles, Candor boys' golf captured the IAC Small School Championship with a 357-team total, and senior, Noah Banks finished second overall on the small school leaderboard.
The Coyotes' 357 total was good enough to win by 13 strokes over second place, Groton.
Banks led the charge, carding a 78 for seven over par and finishing second overall in the small school division. Banks also earned the Outstanding Senior award for his play on Tuesday.
Candor's Tyler Greeno finished his 18-hole round with an 86, which placed him fifth overall.
"Noah was awesome, finishing second overall, and Greeno taking fifth. Those two have led this team for years, they deserve this," said coach Kevin Jester.
Brennan Zimmer shot a 92 for the Coyotes, while Max Fey carded a 101. Kody Floyd shot a 104 for the tournament and Hunter Cody finished his round with a 118.
"Kody has been steady for three years for us, and Max played well today. Also Brennan Zimmer had his best performance ever. It was an all around great day for Candor golf," added Jester.
"I am so proud of the boys. They performed well on the big stage. The four seniors get to go out in style with a conference championship," added coach Jester.
Noah Banks and Tyler Greeno will both take part in the Medalist Tournament on Thursday at Mark Twain in Elmira for an opportunity to qualify for states.
Candor boys' golf will compete in sectionals next week at Delhi.
