NEWARK VALLEY - Cardinals tennis hosted the Section IV Class C-D West tournament on Thursday, with six Newark Valley athletes seeing action in the singles and doubles brackets.

In singles play, Newark Valley's Michael Wandell played well, earning a 6-2, 6-1 victory in the first round. In the second round, Wandell defeated Boerman from Lansing, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 in three sets. Wandell then lost in the third round to Elmira Notre Dame's Francisco Serrano Alvarez-Sostre, 6-0, 6-0.

Owen Jerabek fell in his first round match for the Cardinals, 6-1, 6-0, while Andrew Lelik and Brianna Noble also lost their opening contest in the doubles bracket.

Emma Smith and Vincent Finta teamed up in doubles competition, winning their match with Moravia in the opening round, 6-1, 6-0, but dropping their second round match.

The Section IV tournament wraps up the 2025 tennis season for Newark Valley.
