SECTION IV TENNIS: BEYER HAS SOLID DAY FOR OWEGO AT SECTION IV CLASS B TOURNAMENT (2025-05-15)

Tioga County Sports Report
ENDWELL - Owego tennis sent four athletes to play in the Section IV Class B tournament at Maine-Endwell today, with Sam Beyer leading the way, alongside DJ Cardone, Scott Reigle and Tanner Hayes.

Hayes and Reigle represented Owego in the doubles bracket, but fell in their first round match to a strong Chenango Valley team.

"This was Tanner and Scott's first time playing in sectionals. It was a great experience for them and will no doubt help them next year," said coach Erica Haray.

Beyer and Cardone competed in the singles bracket. Cardone won his first round match against Stiles from Chenango Valley. In the second round Cardone fell 6-2, 6-0 to Martin from Maine-Endwell.

OFA's Beyer had an excellent day, winning in both the first and second rounds, before falling to the eventual tournament winner from Vestal. Beyer defeated Garnar from Chenango Valley to get his day started. In the second round, Beyer bested Maine-Endwell's Underwood in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. Owego's Beyer then dropped his third round match, 6-1, 6-3.

Sam Beyer was not seeded coming into the tournament, which meant he did not have a first round bye and was only allowed to play three matches in one day. Beyer will now compete tomorrow for third place and a chance to go to the state qualifier tournament.

"Sam is getting better and tougher each match, and is very strategic in how he plays," said coach Haray.

"We are very proud of how hard he works and his character on the court too."

Sam Beyer will go for third place tomorrow in Union-Endicott at 4 p.m.
