TRACK & FIELD: NEWARK VALLEY GIRLS AND BOYS HAVE STRONG SHOWING IN IAC DIVISIONAL MEET AT ELMIRA HEIGHTS (2025-05-12)

ELMIRA HEIGHTS - Cardinals' track and field traveled to Elmira Heights for a divisional meet that included, Edison, Elmira Notre Dame, and Watkins Glen, with the girls coming out on top of everyone with 55-team points, while the boys's side totaled 45-team points, finishing only behind the Spartans.

Brook Illsley notched a win in the 3000m for the Newark Valley girls, running 13:06.96. Anika Smith won the pole vault, posting 8-0, while also winning the long jump with 15-6.

Olivia Webb grabbed the high jump event for the Cardinals, leaping 4-4. Emily LaPorte finished with a time of 1:12.77 to win the girls' 400-meters.

Leah Lansing and Elle Webb went two-three in the 800m. Lansing ran 2:54.02 and Webb clocked 2:58.72. Abigail Escalante finished third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 20.25.

LaPorte earned second place in the triple jump, leaping 31-2 and Bella King heaved 25-5.25 for second in the shot put event. King threw 68-8 for second place in the discus as well.

On the boys' side for the Cardinals, Logan Rhodes posted 12-3 to win the pole vault. Zion King won the long jump with 18-4, while Clemente Borelli came in second with 18-1.

King also took home the victory in the triple jump, leaping 38-10. King would finish second in the 100-meter dash, running 12.05.

Elijah Williams picked up a victory for Newark Valley in the 400-meter hurdles, clocking 1:03.31 and Marcos Escalante won the 800m with a time of 2:14.06.

Jack Blomberg placed second with 21.61 in the 110 hurdles, while John Sloughter finished third, running 21.89.

In the discus event, Austin DeBolt threw 96-1, good enough for second place. Blomberg finished third, throwing 95-10. DeBolt earned third in the shot put with a heave of 32-2.25.

Newark Valley will look for more solid finishes when they head to the Quinney Invite at Sidney on May 16th.
