SECTION IV FLAG: OFA BATTLES ADVERSITY TO SURVIVE WINDSOR AND FINISH REGULAR SEASON UNBEATEN (2025-05-10)

Tioga County Sports Report
OWEGO - In the Saturday matinee, River Hawks' flag football needed several big defensive stops to get by Windsor, but got the job done to finish the regular season undefeated, with a 20-19 win over the Black Knights.

Windsor struck first with a deep touchdown pass on only the second play from scrimmage to go up 6-0.

Owego quickly gained composure and put together a nice drive that ended in a score after Bella Silvestri made a cut to reverse field and find the end zone on a long touchdown run.

The River Hawks forced Windsor to punt on the following drive. OFA then marched back down field and scored after Silvestri took a direct snap and hit Jaelynne Lovell for a score to put Owego ahead 13-6.

Both teams stalled offensively on their next possessions, but Windsor eventually got the ball back and scored on a touchdown pass, caught at the end zone pylon. The Black Knights kept the pressure on by intercepting Owego on the ensuing drive.

OFA grabbed the momentum back, however, when Silvestri jumped a Windsor passing route for a pick of her own at the 3:58 mark of the first half.

With time ticking away, Owego was able to convert on fourth down with a hook and ladder play to score Alyssa Harrington and go into the break ahead, 20-12.

Windsor forced OFA to punt to begin the second half. The Black Knights then scored on the next possession and after converting the extra point, only trailed Owego, 20-19.

The score would remain that way the rest of the half, thanks to a goal line stand by the River Hawks' defense and a Lexi Herceg interception that halted another Windsor drive. Elizabeth Reigle earned a clutch flag pull in the backfield on the final Black Knights possession to help secure Owego an unbeaten regular season.

Herceg had the reins at quarterback on Saturday for OFA. The senior was 9-for-16 through the air with 76 yards passing and one TD.

Silvestri had a work horse performance, carrying the ball 13 times for 143 yards rushing and a score. Harrington finished the day with a touchdown to go with 40 yards receiving and Lovell added a touchdown reception as well.

Defensively, Herceg and Silvestri each grabbed an interception. Silvestri lead the River Hawks in tackles with 11, while Reigle tallied seven flags pulled. Kylie Craven had a solid day on the defensive side of the ball as well, earning five tackles for the day.
