VESTAL - The River Hawks' track and field team made a trip to Vestal on Friday evening to take part in the Golden Bear Relays, a coed meet that pairs two boys and two girls on each relay team.
"This meet is a lot of fun and is one of the highlights of the season," said coach Scott Senko.
"Track often feels like an individual sport, but this meet really makes the kids feel like they are part of a team. All night, you could see them supporting each other and cheering on their teammates."
"There is not as much pressure as a standard invitational and the kids get to run some unique events, like the Swedish Relay which includes a 100, 200, 300, and 400," added coach Senko.
OFA won the Swedish Relay with a time of 2:21.58. The team consisted of Billy Huddleston, Stella Palladino, Gavin Heath and Madison McEvoy.
In the sprint medley relay, the team of McEvoy, Adam Llewellyn, Palladino, and Heath won, running 3:59.53.
OFA also won the 800m sprint medley relay, clocking 1:56.69. The relay team consisted of Llewellyn, Palladino, Huddleston and Sidney Senko.
Owego placed second in the 4000m distance medley relay with 13:05.98. Their team was comprised of Jaelyn Chrysler, Magavin Allen, Lilly LaFever, and Javan Belokur.
The River Hawks also took second in the 4x1600m. The relay team of Chrysler, Allen, Abigail McHugh, and Belokur ran 22:23.94.
In the mixed shot put relay, Owego placed fourth with 64-04.00. Dylan Davis heaved 42-11.50 in the boys' shot put event, while Brady Senko leaped 38-00.50 in the triple jump.
Owego takes the track again on May 14th.
"Next week is the last week of the regular season before we start the championship part of the season and our team is looking really strong," commented coach Senko.
