STAC BASEBALL: OWEGO SCORES NINE TO EARN SERIES SWEEP ON THE ROAD OVER WAVERLY (2025-05-08)

Tioga County Sports Report
WAVERLY - OFA used a big third inning and a solid group effort on the mound to sweep their series with Waverly on the road Thursday, defeating the Wolverines, 9-4.

The River Hawks plated a run in the first inning, when Dylan Brace knocked an RBI-single to left field to score Conlan Taylor.

Waverly came right back in the home half of the second, however, getting two runs across to take a 2-1 lead.

It was the third inning that Owego broke the game open, scoring six runs to regain a lead they would not surrender the rest of Thursday evening's contest.

Elijah Lewis lead off the inning with a base-hit, followed by Taylor working a walk. Lewis would steal third, before being driven in by a Connor Kotski single. Brace then walked to load the bases.

Matt Higgins stepped to the plate and ripped a double to center field, bringing home all three runners. With two-outs, Jack Buchsbaum drove in Higgins with a base-knock. Buchsbaum then stole second, before being hit home by Joseph Palladino for the final run of the inning.

Waverly put up another run in the fourth, but Owego came right back with two more of their own in the fifth.

Buchsbaum got on with a base-hit to left field. The senior then stole second and advanced to third base on a passed ball. Palladino once again scored Buchsbaum with another single. Palladino then stole a base, before being driven in by Taylor to put OFA ahead, 9-3.

Waverly plated a run in the sixth for the final score of Thursday's game.

Palladino went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Higgins drove in three, while Buchsbaum earned two hits to go with two stolen bases.

Taylor was 2-for-2 on the day, with two runs scored and an RBI. Kotski and Brace had an RBI each as well.

Kotski, Mason Grippen and Tyler Lewis all saw time on the mound for Owego, combining for six strikeouts and only three earned runs.

Owego travels to Binghamton on Saturday for an early game against Seton Catholic.
