Newark Valley's Owen Jerabek set the tone for the Cardinals' tennis team in three different matches last week, while Stella Palladino dominated in the sprints for Owego track & field, breaking the school record in the 200-meters. They are the Tioga County Sports Report / Guthrie Community Credit Union "Athletes of the Week," for the week ending May 3.

Owen Jerabek was a major factor for Newark Valley's tennis team last week. Jerabek won all three of his matchups, including two contests that helped earn the Cardinals a pair of wins over Moravia. Jerabek did not drop a set in any of the three matches he competed in.

Stella Palladino won both the 100-meter dash and 200-meters in a meet at Vestal for OFA track & field last week. Palladino then followed that performance up by winning the two sprints again at the Gerry O'Donnell Invitational in Windsor with new personal best times in each event. At Windsor, Palladino's time of 25.57 in the 200m broke a school record that had lasted since 1989.
