Tioga County Sports Report
NEWARK VALLEY - Abby DeBolt pitched a complete game and the Cardinals put up double digit runs in a big win on Monday, defeating Newfield, 16-3.
DeBolt went all five innings in the circle for Newark Valley, striking out 13 without surrendering an earned run.
Both teams scored twice in the first and Newfield put up another in the top of the second, but the Cardinals plated five of their own in the home half of the inning.
With two outs, Lilly Cornell drove one by third base to score Rebecca Thompson. DeBolt worked a walk to load the bases. Laura Ludwig and Kaitlyn Keith were both hit by a pitch in consecutive at-bats, which brought in two more runs. Haven Aylesworth then smacked a single to drive in the other two runs of the second inning.
The Cardinals got a run home in both the third and fourth innings, before ending the game with seven runs in the fifth.
Haven Aylesworth went 2-for-2 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Keith and Ludwig each totaled three RBIs on the day, while Kayden Rockwell recorded a triple in Monday's action to go with two runs scored.
Cornell and Cecelia Whitney scored twice, while Thompson and Hattie Hines each crossed home once as well.
"This was another fun win tonight. I'm happy we could get a good win for the seniors in their final game on this field," said coach Val Fischer.
"Abby threw a great game in the circle and everyone contributed with their bats."
The Newark Valley seniors honored in tonight's game were Laura Ludwig, Hattie Sue Hines, Rebecca Thompson, and Kayden Rockwell.
Newark Valley will play Tioga next on May 9th.
