Tioga County Sports Report
ELMIRA - The Eagles fell to 6-7 on the season yesterday, going on the road and dropping a close matchup with Elmira Notre Dame, 5-6 in IAC softball action.
After a scoreless first inning, Notre Dame notched a run in each of the next three.
In the top of the fifth, the Eagles plated their first run of the evening, when Olivia Potts reached base on a walk, then eventually scored off a passed ball.
SVEC scored another run in the sixth, thanks to a Maddy Ashby double that drove in Katelyn Klym, but the Eagles gave up three more to Notre Dame in the home half of the inning.
In the final inning, SVEC mounted a comeback bid, plating three runs, but coming up just short.
Kelsea Swayze got on base after a dropped third strike. Emma Neish then knocked a base-hit to left field and Jillian Holmes worked a walk to load the bases.
Notre Dame would get the next two batters out without allowing any runners to advance. With two outs, Ryleigh Bowman put a ball in play and an error by the Crusaders' shortstop allowed all three runners to score. Notre Dame was able to get a strikeout in the next at-bat however, finishing the SVEC rally.
Ashby had an RBI to go with a hit for the day. Neish finished 1-for-4 with a run scored and both Klym and Bowman earned a hit in the game. Potts also scored a run in Friday's action.
Elliana Middlebrook threw six innings, giving up two earned runs, while striking out nine.
SVEC will host Edison on Monday.
