Tioga County Sports Report
OWEGO - On a rainy night in STAC lacrosse action, OFA struggled to keep pace with a tough Chenango Valley squad, falling at home 20-12.
Owego struck first in the game, when Lucas Boccasini found the net early. The Warriors had a strong response though, scoring seven unanswered goals to finish out the first quarter.
Ryan Barnes scored for Owego to start the second, but Chenango Valley answered right back with another one of their own to make things 8-2.
Boccasini found the back of the net for two straight goals to get OFA back within four, and Sawyer Prentiss snapped in a goal to make it 8-5.
From there, the Warriors would put in another five straight before the half to build a lead the River Hawks couldn't overcome.
Prentiss and Barnes each found the net in the third and OFA scored a total of four goals in the final quarter.
Prentiss finished with five goals. Boccasini netted four, while Barnes found the net three times for a hat trick.
The game also marked senior night for the River Hawks. OFA has five seniors on the roster. Kaiden Jones, Ryan Barnes, Caleb Cole, Antoni Talarico, and Alexander Reid. Veteran leader, Caleb Cole spoke on what it meant to him.
"This is my favorite sport and some of my closest friends are on this team. I love coming out here every day and playing with them," Cole said.
As far as expectations for the remainder of the season, Cole is ready to get right back to work.
"It's about showing up every day and not worrying about the past. We need to focus on the future and keep working hard ," the senior added.
OFA will be on the road for their next four straight games, starting on April 29th at Chenango Forks.
