BINGHAMTON - The River Hawks' tennis team dropped a pair of matches on Tuesday when they traveled to Binghamton for a double header with Seton Catholic, after their previously scheduled matches were rained out.
Each match of the double header was played as one proset to eight. As a team, OFA fell in the first and second match, 5-1 to the Saints.
Reece Goodman defeated OFA's Sam Beyer in first singles for both matches. 8-1, 8-1. Despite a tough loss to a solid opponent, coach Erica Haray had high praise for Beyer.
"Sam consistently proves himself to be a great student-athlete and leader, and is now captain of our team," said Haray.
In second singles action, Seton's Simon Pangilinan bested DJ Cardone 8-3, 8-0.
Owego's Scott Reigle won in third singles for the first match of the double header, topping Jack Bouton, 8-0. Reigle lost his third singles contest in the second match to Seton's Isaiah Merke, 8-4.
"This was Scott's first singles win. He did a great job and played a strong second match as well," said coach Haray.
For the Saints, Sean Lee and Dominick Williamson defeated Anakyn Basile and Tanner Hayes, 8-2 in first doubles action. Basile and Hayes bounced back for Owego though in the second match of the day, besting Victor Bohrer and Isaac Gabriel, 8-0 for their first win as a doubles team.
The River Hawks forfeited fourth singles and second doubles, while neither team had a third doubles team.
OFA tennis will play next at Windsor on April 24th.
