Tioga County Sports Report
OWEGO - In what was a back and forth game, the River Hawks outlasted Johnson City in double sudden death overtime to win 11-10 at home on Tuesday night.
Johnson City found the net to go up early in the first quarter, but Keira Henry and Izzy Herceg went back-to-back to give OFA the lead.
Madison McEvoy put one in for a 3-1 lead, before Johnson City responded with two of their own to tie things up. With 23-seconds remaining in the second quarter, however, Lexi Herceg found the net to put Owego in front at the half.
The second half was more back and forth action, OFA grabbed the lead with 35-seconds remaining in regulation, but Johnson City tied it back up with 18-seconds left on the clock, sending the game into overtime all knotted up at 10 a piece.
Standout goalie Shannon Maslin would make a huge save in extra time, before Lexi Herceg scored the game winner for the River Hawks.
"It was an unbelievable back and forth game," said coach Ashlee Marsh.
"We were down a couple times, but battled back. We played together and played hard from start to finish. This was a strong performance from the whole team," added Marsh.
Lexi Herceg finished with four goals, including the game winner. Herceg totaled four ground balls on the night as well. Madison McEvoy netted three goals to go with three assists. Izzy Herceg found the net twice, while Keira Henry and Jenna McEvoy each had goals as well.
OFA is in action next against Vestal on April 18th.
