TRACK & FIELD: NEWARK VALLEY, S-VE AND CANDOR COMPETE AT MARATHON 'SPRING FLING' MEET (2025-04-14)

MARATHON - The Cardinals, Panthers and Coyotes traveled to Marathon on Monday to compete alongside 10 other teams in the Marathon Spring Fling meet.

For the girls, Newark Valley placed sixth as a team, while Candor and S-VE tied for 10th. On the boys' side, Newark Valley finished fourth and S-VE placed fifth.

Girls Results
Newark Valley's Emily LaPorte won the 400-meter hurdles, running 1:14.14. Brooke Illsley had a great meet for the Cardinals. Illsley placed second in the 1500m, running 5:53.65, and earning third in the 3000m with 13:16.88. Anika Smith earned fourth in the 200m with 29.60. Smith also placed fifth in the 100-meter dash for Newark Valley, clocking 14.36.

Olivia Vaughn ran 2:57.08 for third in the 800-meters, while Olivia Webb ran 22.30 in the 100-meter hurdles for Newark Valley, good for seventh place. The Cardinals 4x400m relay team finished fourth with a time of 5:10.12.

Webb jumped 4-4 for seventh in the girls' high jump and Vaughn leaped 12-9.5, earning sixth for the Cardinals in the long jump. LaPorte picked up another top three finish for Newark Valley, placing third in the triple jump with 31-5. Smith pole vaulted 7-6 to finish third in the event.

Newark Valley's Bella King threw 81-5 in the discus for third place. King tossed a 23-6.5 in the shot put to take fourth.

Candor's Lindsey Morse finished second in the 100-meter hurdles, running 18.55. Morse also placed third in the long jump, recording 13-8.5. Megan Williamson finished fifth in the 400m with 1:08.59 for Candor, while Claire Rollins earned 10th, running 1:09.50. Williamson also took home fifth in the 200m, running 30.02, while Candor's Rollins clocked 14.77 for eighth in the 100-meter dash.

Montana Vorhis placed sixth for the Coyotes in the 800m with 3:03.45, while Candor's JennaRose Reagan had two top ten finishes in the field events. In the discus, Reagan threw 68-7 for eighth place and then heaved 23-4.75 in the shot put for sixth.

S-VE's Madelyn Ellison won the 2000m steeplechase, clocking 9:00.44. Aubrey Catablan threw 86-2 in the discus, placing second in the event for the Panthers, while SV-E's Kaylee Kastenhuber heaved 25-0 for third place in the girls' shot put.

Kendall Gentile finished fourth in the 800-meters for S-VE, running 2:57.19. Devorah Lau earned fifth place in the pole vault with 5-6 for the Panthers. 

BOYS RESULTS
Marcos Escalante won the 1600-meters for Newark Valley with a time of 5:05.92. Camden King took second in the 3200m with 12:44.03 for the Cardinals. Newark Valley's boys' 4x400-meter relay team placed second, running 3:58.02.

Newark Valley's Jackson Hoover was third in the 800m, clocking 2:17.23. Elijah Williams, Jack Blomberg, and John Sloughter all finished in the top ten for the 110-meter hurdles. Williams ran 19.03 for sixth, while Blomberg ran 22.45 for eighth and Sloughter ran 23.66 for ninth.

Logan Rhodes finished second in the pole vault event, recording 11-6. Zion King placed third in both the long jump and triple jump for Newark Valley. King went 18-10.25 in the long jump and 39-1.75 in the triple. Blomberg earned third in discus, tossing 88-5 for the Cardinals.

Blomberg also finished seventh in the shot put, heaving 32-6.25, while Austin DeBolt took eighth with a 31-5.5. Newark Valley's Wyatt Dillow earned 10th with a heave of 30-9.

Karson Kenville paced S-VE boys with a second place finish in the 110m hurdles, running 16.75. Edward Rixford also earned a second place finish, coming in the 1600m with a time of 5:09.34. Gabe Benjamin ran 5:20.46, good for eighth in the event.

Rixford also placed fourth in the 800-meters, clocking 2:20.16. Kenric Beach earned sixth in the 3200m for S-VE, running 14:57.09. Landon Whitmarsh leaped 17-6.25 for eighth in the long jump.

In order, Kenville and Whitmarsh went seventh and eighth in the triple jump for the Panthers. Kenville jumped 35-4.25, while Whitmarsh leaped 33-2.5. S-VE's Dylan Rosa-Collazo placed sixth in the pole vault with 8-6.

Candor's Charlie Hilbert ran 25.73 for seventh in the 200-meter dash. James Kane finished eighth in the 800m for the Coyotes, clocking 2:23.82. Candor boys' 4x400m relay team placed third in the event with a time of 4:05.40.
