IAC SOFTBALL: NEWARK VALLEY FALLS SHORT ON THE ROAD AGAINST MARATHON IN IAC ACTION (2025-04-14)

Tioga County Sports Reports
MARATHON - The Cardinals' plated seven runs while at Marathon on Monday, but ultimately fell to the Olympians, 12-7 in IAC play.

Newark Valley grabbed an early lead with two runs in the first inning. Maddy Noble lead off with a triple to center field. Lilly Cornell then put a bunt down for a fielder's choice to score Noble. Kaitlyn Keith came to the plate next and knocked another triple, before tagging up to score on an Abby DeBolt fly-out to center.

DeBolt got the start on the mound and pitched the next three innings without giving up a run. In the top of the fourth, Hattie Hines singled to advance Haven Aylesworth to second. With two runners on and two outs, Rebecca Thompson smacked a base hit to score Aylesworth and put the Cardinals up 3-0.

Marathon would get on the board in the home half of the fifth, plating five runs. The Olympians scored another seven runs for a big sixth inning.

Newark Valley tried to mount a comeback in the final inning by getting four runs across, but it would not be enough.

In the top of the seventh, Cornell tripled with one out. Keith followed with a walk, and both runners scored off of errors. DeBolt then came to the plate and doubled to right field. Kailyn Harvey came in to pinch run for DeBolt. Harvey advanced to third on a bunt single by Kayden Rockwell. Harvey and Rockwell would each reach home on a hard hit ball by Malloy Chapman that resulted in a Marathon error.

Keith went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. DeBolt drove in a run, while Noble was 2-for-4. Chapman finished with two RBIs as well.

Newark Valley takes the diamond again on April 16th to face Southern Cayuga.
